High River Town Councillors have decided to hold a public hearing on proposed amendments to the Traffic Bylaw.

In Town Council on Monday, December 10, Mayor Craig Snodgrass said he felt this was the right decision due to the contentious nature of the bylaw changes.

Manager of Emergency Management and Protective Services, Peter Genereaux says they've had some feedback already.

"There's been lots of good questions so far coming from the public and from council. We did public engagement earlier this year and that's where we saw a lot of feedback that prompted these changes, but now we just want to make sure we have a public hearing and people have the opportunity to voice their questions and concerns."

The public hearing will focus on three big ticket items that are getting the most flack says Genereaux.

"So anything that's within the bylaw that we've drafted like speed limits, downtown parking and RV parking. Anything in the bylaw is available for residents to come and ask questions on."

Current amendments look to lower the speed limits on residential roads from 50 kilometers per hour to 40, time limit downtown parking areas, and change RV parking restrictions.

Genereaux says those who were unaware of changes, can find the bylaw on the Town's Website.

The public hearing is scheduled for the first Council meeting of 2020, on January 13.
