Town of Okotoks adds to their electric fleet

The Town of Okotoks has recently grown their electric fleet with two new vehicles.

They received a $100,000 grant through the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities (EVM) program, which is administered by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC).

Thanks to that grant, they have recently purchased a pair of new Olympia Millenium E Model electric ice resurfacers to replace older equipment at the Centennial Arenas and the Okotoks Recreation Centre.

These new electric ice resurfacers don't release harmful emissions, helping to cause less strain on the arena's ventilation systems, as well as helping to improve air quality for those who use these areas to exercise and play.

On top of lowering emissions, these two new ice resurfacers don't require oil changes and their brakes are longer-lasting than other types of ice resurfacers, which lowers downtime and costs for necessary upkeep of the vehicles.

"We are proud to add two additional electric ice resurfacers to our electric fleet, which safeguards arena users from toxic air emissions, and supports a healthy recreation environment for our Town," explained the Okotoks Recreation Operations Manager, Daniel Robinson.

He adds that these ice resurfacers help to demonstrate the Town's commitment to environmental and fiscal responsibility.
