"Lightning" Luke Tournier captured his first ever Grande Prairie Stompede crown Sunday, June 2, taking home a cheque for $25,000.

Tournier, coming off barrel one, beat out defending Calgary Stampede champion Kurt Bensmiller off barrel two, Codey McCurrach on barrel three and Vern Nolin off barrel four.

Among the locals, High River's Jason Glass had the sixth fastest time on the final day.

Okotoks Mark Sutherland was 11th and High River's jordie fike was 12th.

The driver's now pack up and hit the road for Saskatoon starting Thursday, June 6.
