As much as most of us hate to admit it, Summer is slowly giving way to Fall here in the Foothills, which usually means the golf clubs go away for the Winter, but the curling brooms come out.

Oilfields Curling Club Manager Mike Libbus says the ice will be going in over the next couple of weeks, and they're holding their first registration night of the season this Friday Sept. 18) at the Club.

He says he never knows what the numbers will be like from year to year.

"There was a lot of excitement around Alberta last year for curling with Calgary hosting the Brier and the Canada Cup and the Continental Cup. We're hoping that transfers into some more new curlers out here in Black Diamond. The game is fun and is good for all ages."

Libbus says they'll start putting the ice in by the middle of next week and they'll be able to start throwing stones on it by the first week of October, with the first bonspiel of the season being the annual "Little Brown Jug" Mixed Legion Tournament November 13-to-15.

Libbus says they're not hosting any Provincial playdown events this season, but will have the World Curling Tour making a stop in Black Diamond in late November.
