Succession was the big winner at Monday night's Primetime Emmys award show.

It beat out The Last of Us in pretty much every category they were nominated in.

It was a bit surprising, as The Last of Us just won 8 Emmys the week prior.

The Last of Us has more of a connection to most Albertans as season one was filmed throughout the province with scenes shot in High River, Okotoks, Nanton and throughout the Foothills.

The HBO drama had nominations for Best Drama series which Succession won, and it was the same in the Best Actor and Best Actress in a Drama Series. Pedro Pascal lost out to Kieran Culkin (Succession) and Bella Ramsey lost to Sarah Snook (Succession).

The series also lost out in the Best Writing for a Drama series again to Succession and ditto in the Best Directing for a Drama series.

Another locally shot movie, Prey, was nominated in two categories but also lost out. Best Directing for a Limited or Anthology or TV movie went to Lee Sung Jun who directed Beef (Netflix). And Prey lost out to Beef again, this time in the Best Writing for a Limited or Anthology series or TV movie category.
