During his four years with the Okotoks Dawgs, Thomas Rodrigues has been through all the ups and downs that come with playing Summer baseball at Seaman Stadium.

After having his post-season ended at home by the Medicine Hat Mavericks for the fourth straight year, Rodrigues saw his WMBL career come to halt a few games sooner than he'd hoped.

The man dubbed as "T-Rod" first came the Dawgs in 2012, and hit .302 in 29 games in his rookie year.

Rodrigues then had a breakout sophomore season in 2013 as he claimed the WMBL batting title, hitting .394 with 30 RBIs and five home runs.

After missing most of the following season at Niagara University, Rodrigues sat out the 2014 WMBL season, but stayed on with the team's front office, putting his baseball skills and knowledge to work off the field.

Rodrigues back in late-May, just days before making his return to the Okotoks Dawgs after missing the entire 2014 season.

Rodrigues eagerly made his return to the field in 2015, but it wasn't long until the injury bug bit him once again.

An ACL tear forced the Dawgs' slugger to miss most of the last half of the season, although he did make a few pinch-hitting appearances in the last few games of the season, including a start against Lethbridge July 31.

With the Dawgs trailing the Medicine Hat Mavericks 7-3 on Thursday night, and Rodrigues' WMBL career close to being over, Manager Brett Thomas inserted him into the lineup for one last at-bat.

Rodrigues says it was an unforgettable moment for him.

"It was awesome," he says. "Just the reception I got, and just doing it in front of the fans really meant a lot. I wanted to get at least one more at home."

Unable to contain his emotions after the defeat, Rodrigues says he can't thank the Dawgs organization enough for his time in Okotoks.

"Best four Summers of my life," he says. "I don't know how to describe it or put it into words, just thank-you (to the Dawgs) for four summers I won't forget. I just love going up on the concourse every day and seeing the friendly faces, just seeing the people I love. They've had my back since year one, and last year being in the office, and this year coming back and getting injured. Just class all the way."

Although his playing days are done, Rodrigues will head back to Niagara to finish his degree, and says he hopes to coach the team there, and will welcome any opportunity to return to Okotoks next summer.
