Vandalism to trees in High River's George Lane park has one local resident looking to help out.

Marianne Dickson says the park has meant a lot to her and her family over the years.

Both personally and professionally actually, I raised my two daughters here in High River and they had their grade 12 grad ceremonies at George Lane, my mother, who's elderly, she loves to go and enjoy the music in the park, sit under those trees, the winter festival lights that are up and the skating rink, children playing in the playground, and as a community organization (Wild Rose Community Connections, we certainly use George Lane park to host some events," she says. "It definitely has a lot of meaning and I hope our whole community is invested in that park because it is a jewel of High River."

Dickson says the cost of the damage, estimated at $11,500, shouldn't be left to the taxpayers.

She says the spirit of High Riverittes is better than the vandalism.

Dickson's willing to put up $200 and says if 472 other people put up just $25 each they'll have raised about $12,000 for replacing the damaged trees.
