High River has been home to plenty of film and television productions over the years from superheroes to zombies.

Town council got an update on what's happening at its last meeting from Jason Nolan, supervising location manager for HBO's The Last Of Us, and Luke Azevedo, Film Commissioner.

They spoke about the increased number of productions in Alberta this year and why they so often choose High River.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says the productions bring a lot of money to the community.

"Not just the amount that they put into our Community Vitality Fund that gets distributed out to groups in High River, so not just that but just the local economy and the different businesses, whether it be the rental of equipment of getting coffee at Colossi's or any coffee shop in town and everything in between."

Nolan told council Tin Star dropped a million dollars in the local economy.

"People don't realize what they bring in and we understand lots of times there's a bit of a traffic congestion and delays but once you know how much they bring to this community the two minutes you've got to sit in traffic every now and then is definitely worth it for all of us in High River, so we're very lucky and happy to have them there's no question."

Nolan says The Last Of Us was going to film in Fort MacLeod but decided instead to move to High River.

Snodgrass feels things should go a little easier this year with Centre Street no longer being torn up and other roads closed while two projects were being filmed at the same time.

Azevedo says changes the Province has made have really helped the industry as well.
