Chestermere RCMP have been on the scene of a three-vehicle collision involving semi-trucks since 3:00 a.m. today.

It appears a semi hauling a herbicide collided with two other semi-trucks parked on the shoulder of the road.

One person has died as a result of the collision.

It's affecting both lanes of Highway 1, westbound at Paradise Road (Range Road 282).

RCMP, EMS and Fire personnel are currently on scene with Volker Stevin redirecting traffic.

They're expected to be on site for the next several hours directing westbound traffic through the Chestermere.

The RCMP collision reconstructionist and Criminal Collision Investigative Team (CCIT) are assisting both the Chestermere and Strathmore RCMP detachments in the ongoing investigation.

They're asking motorists to avoid the area.
