Despite a lot of big time curling events being cancelled this year, the Okotoks Curling Club managed to land a couple of premier events taking place in November.

Curling Club Manager, Mike Libbus, says they're hosting the ATB Classic Friday, November 6 to Sunday, November 8, featuring some pretty big names.

"Currently we have Kevin Koe signed up, Brendan Bottcher, Matt Dunstone, Colten Flasch and then a lot of Alberta teams, which will be part of what they're calling an Alberta Tour. Trying to generate some points to qualify for the provincials."

Libbus says because of the changes thanks to the pandemic they had to get creative in determining how teams qualify for provincials

"With the other events and the World Curling Tour events being cancelled for this year. Players and teams are just looking for games and they're trying to get points so they can qualify for their provincials so they can move on to the Brier and the Scotties. So, we're pretty excited to have that happening."

Libbus, says the Alberta Ladies Tour event scheduled for the weekend of Friday, November 13 to Sunday, November 15, has some big names of its own.

"We've got some pretty high profile names coming. Rachel Homan, who lives in Alberta now and Kelsey Roque and last years Alberta Scotties champion, Laura Walker, who'll be coming to our facility a week after the men's."

Both events will be live-streamed by the club.
