COVID has made connecting with your neighbours difficult to near impossible however the Town of Okotoks is doing its best to make it easier.

The town's new "Okotoks Community Champion" program is designed to connect neighbours while remaining COVID safe.

Community Wellness Specialist with the Town of Okotoks Sian Anderson says this program provides "community champions" with a toolkit to help reach out and connect with neighbours.

Anderson says they designed the program during COVID with restrictions in mind, saying the items in the bags are designed to promote fun and safe connections.

"When they sign up they receive a toolkit which is full of fun items, bags that they can go and use as a way to introduce themselves."

Anderson says the bags have items like hot chocolate which can be shared at a distance or virtually from the safety of your home.

"Knowing the people who live around you has so many benefits, If you need a cup of sugar you have someone to go check in with it, if you have kids you know who your kids are going to play with. it just provides options for how you engage in your community."

Anderson says signing up for this program is simple with the online application process being available on the town's website.
