A 5-3 win for the Okotoks Oilers Tuesday night in Calgary over the Mustangs.

Matt McNair had a two goal night for the locals to lead the way, while singles went to Braeden Nesbitt, Colin O'Neill and Jordie Lawson.

Oilers defenceman Travis Verveda says once they got up 3-0 early they let up a bit, which could have been costly.

"In the first we definitely took it to them, we played a really good game. In the second we kind of got away from our game. We stopped moving our feet and we kind of got selfish trying to get points a bit and I think towards the end we started getting back to what we're supposed to do and scored a goal and that was good."

The loss was the 26th in a row for the Mustangs, who are just two away from tying a 41 year old league record for futility.

The Oilers are back in action Friday when they host the Camrose Kodiaks.
