The Okotoks Oilers opened their AJHL 2016-2017 season Friday night in Brooks.

The two teams came out both looking for a win, but it was the Oilers who came out victorious in that goal, defeating the Bandits 2-1.

Jacob Bernard-Docker scored the game-winning goal saying that if it weren't for the pass from Carson Beers he wouldn't have been able to put the puck on net and scored the goal.

"We had a power play, and the plan was just to get pucks on net, they have a strong penalty kill so were trying to make sure that we didn't overhandle the puck, and it just happened to go in for me."

Bernard-Docker says that he is enjoying playing along side Beers.

"He has helped me out a lot, giving me different pointers and now that the first game is out of the way, and hopefully it will just get better from here."

After Fridays win Bernard-Docker says that the team can't let it go to their head going into Saturday's game against the Camrose Kodiaks.

"We need to go into Camrose with the same mentality that we came into this game with and played the same game."

The Oilers and Kodiaks face off at 7 Saturday.
