After his first few days of training camp as the High River Flyers' new coach, Bruce Cowie is slowly starting to see his roster take shape.

Hired on to replace long-time coach Murray Wegener just days before camp started, Cowie is tasked with putting his stamp on the team in a short period of time.

He says there's one type of player he's looking for above the rest.

"Grinders," Cowie says. "Kids that want to go out and play their heart out, and take a lot of pride in the jersey they're wearing. It's all about puck possession, if you haven't got that puck, you're not going to score, so they've got to play good, aggressive, hard hockey."

With the Flyers' first regular season game not until the end of September, Cowie says there's still plenty of time to put the team together.

"We've got almost three or four weeks before the regular season starts, well actually four weeks, so there'll be changes between now and then," he says. "Only time will tell. We've got two practices this week, and two next week, and we have the long weekend off, we'll just have to wait and see."

The Flyers play two pre-season games against the Okotoks Bisons Sep. 18 and 20, and head to Medicine Hat to open their regular season on Sep. 25.
