This is Mental Health month in Canada.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw says it's timely considering what Albertans, and all Canadians have been though over the last several weeks.

"Prior to the pandemic, one in five Albertans were expected to experience a mental health or addiction issue at some point in their lifetime. As a result of this pandemic all Albertans may be feeling increased fear, anxiety or sadness," she says. "Many Albertans, particularly those who experience illness, grief or loss or financial hardships may require additional mental health support."

She says Alberta Health's Mental Health Help line and the Addiction Help line have increased capacity to take calls.

Their number is 1-877-303-2642.

Increased capacity has also been put in place at the Community and Social Services 211 Help line and the Kids Help Phone.

Dr. Hinshaw says while it's important to stop the spread of the corona virus it's also just as important to support good mental health.
