The Highwood Mustangs play their first football game in three years Friday, September 20 when they head to Rundle College in Calgary to tackle the Cobras.

Coach Brian Brandford says they recruited a couple of players from Notre Dame Collegiate to play this year as well.

"You know we have Brandon Diebel, he's going to start at quarterback for us. He's an outstanding young man and played a couple of years in bantam. This will be his first experience at the high school level. And we also have Allen Elliot who will be an offensive tackle for us."

Brandford, says he's assembled a good coaching staff this year which will help with the players development.

"We have nine coaches, which is outstanding. So the kids are getting a lot of individual coaching that they didn't get in the past."

Brandford says despite the fact the Mustangs aren't in a league this year, but are playing a handful of exhibition games as they rebuild the program, the players are having a great time.

"The guys seem to be real positive about their football experience so far and if we can create that environment and believe the process and work hard and give them the skills that they need to be successful, we think the winning will come. For sure."

The Mustangs will face the Holy Trinity Academy Knights in their lone home game Thursday, September 26 at Highwood.
