It wasn't too long ago (June 2nd 1960) that a young whipper snapper was
born to the Browns. That young snappers Grandparents are in the picture
above. Yes, that is my Grandma in the middle (Margaret Tilley) holding
a cousin of mine and on the far right that is my dear Grandfather who
passed the year before I was born in 1959. Grand Dad's name was
Gerald Howard Brown and I was named after him and so very proud
to have been. My Grandpa was a Major in the 2nd World War according
to the information I have received over the years. Grandpa Brown and the
original Gerald went by Howard to his friends and family and so did I.
My name changed in North Bay Ontario at my first day of a full time radio job
when GM Doug Ackhearst (CFCH) said I looked more like a Charlie Brown than
Gerald. Besides that Doug said, "Gerry Brown is the name of the current
Governor of California so you can't call yourself that. I like Charlie,
now go take my clothes to the drycleaners".
Yes folks that was the day I became in my radio life known as Charlie
Brown. The only thing I regret is not telling more people over the years
my real name and how proud I was to be named after "The Major". As
another November 11th passed I was in Red Deer working on the radio
but thinking how proud I am of not only of my name and who I was named
after but who that person was that gave me that name. Major Gerald
Howard Brown a member of the Ottawa Highlanders! Lest We Forget!
Enough about me, who are you named after?
The Brown family just lost the last of my Dad's brothers my Uncle Bob, while remembering my
my Grandfather I thought I would leave You with a picture of my late Uncle Bob and Aunt Gail,
who is also left to remember another great person in our families life.
