DENNIS JOHN MOIR, beloved husband of Wendy Moir, of Nanton, passed away at the Foothills Hospital suddenly on July 21, 2016 at the age of 71 years. He is also survived by his son Dan (Marcy) Mior; grandchildren Damin (13), Jade (8) and Malia (4); Daughter Amanda and son Kevin. Dennis also has two sisters, Jean (Bill) Resch; nephews Scott (Heather) and Colin; and Lois (Mark) Reigert and nephew Jonathon, and nieces Leslie, Janice and Melissa. He also has one cousin Ian (Barb) Cochran. He was pre-deceased by his parents Allan and Catherine Moir.

Dennis grew up on a farm near Kindersley, Saskatchewan. After graduating from high school, he attended SAIT in Calgary enrolled in Electrical Technology. He completed only one year and chose to go to Thompson, Manitoba to work in the nickel mine for six months. He then returned to Calgary and worked for many years in the Bulk Materials Handling Industry moving up from Shipper Receiver, to Inside Sales, Outside Sales and then Production Manager. After many years he was laid off in a country wide cut of middle management and then operated his own company in the same industry for a few years. He moved to Nanton in 2005 to look after Bill Watt’s farm. Wendy joined him in February the following year after selling their house in Calgary. He worked for Magnum Trailer Sales until retiring in 2009.

He was incredibly mechanically inclined, even at a very early age. He had always been able to think outside the box when it came to fixing things. There were not many tasks that he did not tackle and few of them ever stumped him.

He was passionate about camping, curling, barbecuing, watching football (either on TV or the Stampeders games live), Christmas lights, and keeping the Watt Homestead looking great. He was a great cook and anyone who ever tasted them, loved his dill pickles (especially his grandkids).

His children and grandchildren were the light of his life and he loved to attend as many of their activities as possible such as soccer games, football games and dance recitals.

A Come and Go Celebration of Life for Dennis will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Bomber Command Museum in Nanton.

In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Dennis, donations may be made to Stars Air Ambulance 1441 Aviation Park N.E., Calgary, Alberta, T2E 8M7 or to a Charity of your choice.
