One of the better battles to watch at the Calgary Stampeders training camp this season will be for the third string quarterback job.

It's between U of C star QB, Andrew Buckley and the incumbent, Brian Moniz.

Locals may cheer for Buckley, but Stamps Head Coach Dave Dickenson says it's up for grabs.

"I think they're on a fairly even playing field. Even though Brian's been here longer and Andrew has had two camps. It's certainly something you're going to try and improve your quarterback position, but I think as of now it would be a definite strength for us."

Another good battle will be at running back with Canadian Jerome Messam going up against import Tory Harrison.

Messam, who came over from Saskatchewan at the end of last season, will likely get the nod, but Dickenson says he won't make any concrete decisions until he sees what both players bring to camp.

The Stamps make their way to High River for a junior camp Saturday, May 28, with their main camp opening the next day back in Calgary.

In the meantime, Tuesday is the CFL draft.

The Stamps pick sixth in the first round and will likely go after an offensive lineman, although they'll be in the market for receivers and linebackers as well.
