The Holy Trinity Academy Knights are looking forward to the challenges ahead in the 2016 Big Rock Football League season.

After fielding a younger team last season and watching their cross town rivals the Foothills Composite Falcons take the Provincial Tier II title, there's no doubt this year's edition of the Knights will be looking to reach that next level too.

Knights Head Coach Matt Hassett says this season has all the makings of being special.

"We're really excited about this season, we had a great spring camp and we're looking forward to this year we have a lot of players returning," he says.

After falling to the Big Rock champs the Rundle College Cobras last year, the Knights would love nothing more than to get back to the big game, a title the Knights haven't won since 2009.

"Foothills had a really good team last year and they did a great job even though they did lose to Rundle in the final but it was a bit of a wake-up call for them and they got it together and went the rest of the way," Hassett says. "We're looking forward to the new year that's the one thing about high school football you get a new team and a new life each year."

With a strong pool of talent with plenty of game action under their belts, Hassett says his new recruits will be ready to step into any role needed and says their developments in programs like the Big Rock Bengals and the Foothills Eagles go a long way in finding talent.

"Anytime kids come to high school programs when they have experience is huge and the Eagles have done a great job for a couple of decades really almost," he chuckled. "It's been a great program for us."

The Knights will open up their fall camp on August 20-21.
