Holy Trinity Academy and Holy Cross Collegiate were the big winners as a new week of high school basketball opened on Monday night.

The HTA Senior Boys and Girls Knights were at home for a pair of games on Monday, as they played host to DeWinton's Strathcona Tweedsmuir Spartans.

Starting with the girls, the Knights (4-2) played a sound game against the winless Spartans (0-4), as they took the opener 61-28. The Knights now lead the season series 2-0 after winning 70-20 back on December 17.

As for the boys, the Knights (5-0) poured on the offense 88-50 over the now .500 Spartans (3-3) team. HTA leads that season series as well, as they won 62-33 over the Spartans in December.

The game of the evening came in the senior girls division though, as the Highwood High Mustangs were in Strathmore to battle the Holy Cross Collegiate Hawks.

It came down to the wire, but Holy Cross (1-5) picked up their first win of the season in a 73-72 nailbiter over the Mustangs (1-5). Highwood had previously registered their only win of the season against Holy Cross.

Junior boys and girls action gets underway on Tuesday with four games on tap.
