The Town of High River has filled out the required paperwork to let the Province know its reducing red tape.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says it seems a little strange to have to do it.

"I don't know how they operate up there but we constantly try to reduce red tape while at the same time having the protections in place so things are done properly," he says.

Red tape reduction is all part of the Province's requirement for grant money for the replacement floor at the Rec-Plex.

The mayor says red tape reduction can become a slippery slope though.

"I think everybody's got to be aware and very cautious of when you do these things that red tape is one thing, deregulation is a completely different monster."

Snodgrass says reducing red tape is what led to the province rescinding the 1976 coal policy.
