It was an action packed day in High River hosting the final day of the 37th Annual International Shuffleboard Tournament! There was around 10 countries being represented at this tournament including Japan, Canada, USA, Germany, Austria, Australia, United Kingdom, Vietnam, Netherlands and Brazil.

I was able to get a mini lesson from Team USA player Rick Enright on the game of shuffleboard including learning the rules, techniques and how to make the perfect shot!! I can now say it is a lot harder than it looks!

After playing throughout the week I was able to catch the championship game. The final for the Womens' was between Canada and Germany and for the Mens' game it was a match between two Canadian teams! The German team will be taking home the gold this year as they were able to win the game against the Canadians in a very close match!

I was able to speak with Paulo Pavao who came all the way from Rio De Janeiro about his expereince with shuffleboarding and how he became the Vice President of the Brazil Shuffleboard Association. I learned so much about the game and also learned that it was Friendship Day in Brazil!

The President of the International Shuffleboard Association, Myrna Bilton, was happy to tell me that High River was a great host for the tournament and that next year it will be taking place in Vienna, Austria!

If you are interested in joining in on the shuffleboard fun here in High River from August 8th to 10th the 11th Annual Foothills Shuffleboard Association Heritage Inn Classic Mixed Doubles Tournament will be taking place and teams are welcome to sign up for a registration fee of $25!!
