The High River Flyers came out flying on Saturday night and snatched their first win of the season.

Jason Mazur slipped the puck past the Medicine Hat Cubs netminder just 3 minutes and 10 seconds into the game as they went on to a 6 - 2 victory.

Flyers GM Vince Miller said it was needed after starting the season 3 and 0.

"It's a big relief, it was a great win.  The guys all showed that they came to play for a full 60 minutes and they got the result they wanted."

The team was also well disciplined, especially since their game on Friday night against the Okotoks Bisons was riddled with penalties.

"I mean obviously our disipline was a bit of an issue there against Okotoks but it's a young team, we got more than a third of our team is midget aged players.  They're going to have to learn to control their disipline and it'll come."

The game also debuted a new goaltender, Dakota Omura who was recently picked up from the Okotoks Oilers Junior A squad.

"I think he's looking like he's gonna be a pretty goalie for us this year. He was a late release from the Oilers in Okotoks so we're glad to have him and hopefully he'll help us."

Tucker Brown also helped the team with 2 goals and 1 assist with teammates Michael Schaefer and Evan Pakkala picked up a goal and an assist each.

The Flyers now have a 1 and 3 record and look forward to hosting the Blackfalds Wranglers Friday Sept 30.
