High River's trees have taken the brunt of the damage from the wind over the last day and a half.

George Lane Park has been temporarily closed and the public is asked to stay out of the park until further notice.

Emergency crews along with Parks and Recreation staff and contracted arborists have been deployed to assess the damage to affected town-owned trees and begin cleaning debris from the roads and pathways.

Residents can expect to see town staff cleaning debris for the next few days.

You may also see some of the new trees planted over the last couple of weeks leaning over or on the ground.

Be assured Town staff and crews will work to replant the trees over the coming days.

Meantime, the Town of High River is asking everyone to keep children away from local playgrounds.

Playgrounds and parks have not been assessed and could contain safety hazards.

Town staff are working to clear playgrounds of any safety risks and will provide updates when playgrounds are safe to use.

The Town has also closed the Little Bow Dog Park at 132 9 Ave. S.E. behind High River Fitness.

The strong wind has caused trees and branches to come down, causing a safety hazard.
