Two High River Boys got to participate in the Alberta Summer Games that went in Leduc from July 14-17.

Keaton Neish and Callum Minor were both selected to join the Big Country football team, and Minor says things didn't turn out they way they had hoped.

"We didn't really play our best offensively and defensively in our first game. The other team brought weird formations at us that we had no clue what to do."

He says they fell to team Sunny South which consisted of players from Southern Alberta 14-20, but came back to beat Peace Country from the Grand Prairie area 41-7.

He says in the end they lost to Edmonton 19-7 and came in sixth place when the dust settled.

Both boys say that although the weather, and other factors seemed to be against them they walked away with a stronger sense of team spirit and made new friends too.

Coach Cam Burbank says they played through some pretty severe weather, and gave it their all but in the end it wasn't to be.

"I think the effort was there, as a Coach I think we have responsibility. We have Coaches that haven't played with each other and that takes a little time to learn how different Coaches do things."

He says some good news came after it was all over when six of his players including his own son were selected to play in the in the 2017 International Bowl in the United States on the Alberta U16 Football Team.

He says that above all they had fun and developed some friendships and made some new one along the way too.
