Ever since High River hosted the 2010 Men's Provincial Curling Playdowns, the Foothills has been trying to bring another big time curling event to the area.

That'll happen next year as the Okotoks Centennial Arena will play host to the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling events October 25-30, 2016.

15 men's and women's teams will take part in the event.

Spokeswoman for the Grand Slam of Curling Shannon Kleibrink says having Okotoks host the event is a great sign for the growth of curling in the area.

"Curling has come a long ways, there are eight huge Pinty's Grand Slam Events now with the prize money over $2,000,000," she says. "So it is really growing and its great to see and I just can't believe that we're going to have one of these big events here in Okotoks."

Kleibrink says that if you want get that great Christmas present for the curling fan in your life, tickets are already available.

"There is an early bird price as well," she says. "So, for $210 you can purchase the entire event  package, the best way to get them is to go online at the Okotoks Curling Club address which is www.okotokscurling.com and there will be a link to go purchase them."

Some of the world's best players will be in attendance at the big cash bonspiel.
