High River's Jason Glass is off to a rip-roarin' start at the Ponoka Stampede as he had the fast time of the night on the opening night of chuckwagon racing there.

Glass, coming off the four barrel ripped off a time of 1:15.23, a couple of tenths faster than John Walters who sits second and Chad Harden who's third.

Okotoks Mark Sutherland, who's hooked with Glass in the sixth heat fourth on the night, coming off barrel one, while High River's Jordie Fike, who had the two barrel in heat six, was 11th.

Okotoks Dayton Sutherland was 30th after taking two seconds in penalties for failing to stop at the bottom of a barrel and having his wagon ahead of the barrel.

Glass, Walters, Harden, Sutherland and Cliff Cunningham are the top five wagons heading into night two.

The top eight in the aggregate after Saturday night's run go into the semi-final round on Sunday in heats eight and nine.

The top four times from the semi-final round on Sunday, July 1, go into the $50,000 Tommy Dorchester Championship Final Heat on Monday, July 2, where the winner takes home the 2018 Ponoka Stampede Championship.
