Okotoks was visited by the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Holiday Train yesterday afternoon (Dec. 11).

Formerly known as the CP holiday train, it's an annual event where two trains stop in towns and cities across Canada and the U.S. with free live music performances from a stage built into the train car.

At each stop, residents are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food or money for their local food banks.

Okotokians donated $621 and 1,026 pounds of food this year.

CPKC also donated $5,000 to the Okotoks Food Bank.

Canadian musicians Kiesza and Tyler Shaw performed to hundreds of onlookers from 12:15-12:45 p.m. before the train headed to its next stop in Blackie.

Other musicians performing along the way include Virginia to Vegas, Dallas Smith, and Tenille Townes.

The train has stopped in Okotoks a few times before but hadn't been back since 2019.

By the time the trains are done their voyage on December 18, they'll have crossed six provinces and 14 states.

Since 1999, the event has raised $22.5 million and over 5 million pounds of food.
