The High River Flyers have put in a bid to host the 2020 Alberta Junior "B" Hockey Provincials.

Flyers Coach and G.M. Colten Hayes says they got their bid in just under the wire.

"The bid was put in Wednesday night and the deadline was then, but we'll find out September 18th, but we're really excited."

The Flyers have never hosted provincials and Hayes, says they're not alone in submitting a bid.

"I know a couple of other teams, just off the top of my head, the Okotoks Bisons, Medicine Hat Cubs. I heard also Coaldale might be putting in a bid and also Red Deer. So there's a bunch of teams. But, hopefully it does do to the South and it's us.

If the Flyers win the bid, they'd automatically be in the finals as the host team, which Hayes says is a great way of attracting the top Junior "B" players to the team.

Originally the 2020 Provincials were set to go to Blackfalds to be hosted by the Wranglers, but Hayes says Hockey Alberta withdrew the Provincials from them because they moved to Sylvan Lake in the off season and there were concerns over ice time and other factors around hosting the event.

Hockey Alberta will make it's decision by Wednesday, September 18.
