Warm weather and no rain to blame. A high pressure system across Alberta  has created unseasonably warm weather for the beginning of September.
This, in addition to minimal rainfall, has increased the wildfire hazard to a level requiring fire bans in two parts of the province.
The south-western fire ban includes an area north of the Waterton Lakes National Park boundary to just west of Nanton.
The other ban includes the Grande Prairie area.
The ban means all burning permits have been suspended.
Fires are allowed in cooking and heating appliances fuelled by fluids or gases or in designated fire pits in campsites.
