After last year's provincial semi-final heartbreaker against Medicine Hat last season, the Foothills Falcons will once again aim for the pinnacle of high school football.

The defending Big Rock Football Conference champions will be gunning for that elusive Tier II crown as main camp opens up Wednesday Night.

Head Coach Darren Olson says it's going to be a very competitive camp with new recruits and some season veterans getting into game shape.

"We're expecting probably 45 kids to the camp," he says. "We'll have 12 or 14 kids going into grade 10, guys that played with the eagles last year and we're pretty excited about the number of bodies we have returning and certainly the number of starters returning on offence and defence."

Despite the amount of depth the offence and defence the Falcons will need to address the frontlines to make sure their offense can make plays.

"Offensive and defensive line is the probably the one area where we're going to have to work the hardest on," he says. "We got bodies there, but there's some younger kids that going to have to step in, they've been working hard over the summer and I think we're going to be pretty solid at all those positions."

Olson says the Falcon's defence will be full of veterans able to keep the pressure off the offense.

"Defense is returning 10 out of 12 starters from last year's team," he says. "Excited about that part of it, with high expectations comes a little bit more pressure on the guys and the coaches to make sure we're doing everything we need to do at every practice to get the best out of everybody."

The Falcons will open up the regular season September 4th Vs St. Francis.
