Albertans will have to wait another year for the return of the Mac's U18 AAA Hockey Tournament.

Last year's iteration of the tournament was cancelled due to COVID-19, and with 30 teams, this year's tournament was set to come back bigger than ever.

Unfortunately, on Dec. 21, it was announced that the tournament had been cancelled once again.

The tournament committee cited a few concerns surrounding the Omicron variant, including players having tested positive, the newly announced cap on attendance for large venues, and the inability to postpone games and adapt if more cases should pop up.

Among the teams set to appear were the Bow Mark Oilers, one of six host teams.

The championship game was to take place on Sunday, Jan 2.
