A Turner Valley business has been recognized in Avenue Magazine's first Made in Alberta Awards.

Eau Claire Distillery won in the "Drinks" category with their Prickly Pear Equineox.

They were one of 200 entries for seven categories including Food, Fashion, and Reader's Choice.

Eau Claire Distillery President, David Farran, says this isn't their first award, though it is a rather special one.

"We've won Whiskey of the Year award for Canadian Whiskey this year, we won the award for the best London dry styled gin in London, so we've won lots of awards but I think this one is particularly special because it comes from here at home. It's nice to be honoured by your friends and your peers."

He says the drink is Albertan through and through, utilizing Alberta barley and prickly pears.

"It's always a pleasant surprise but we're pretty proud of what we do and we're very proud of the product that we won with. It's a very unique product that kind of showcases what we can make in Alberta, so I'm very pleasantly surprised."

The Foothills business is still relatively young, having been in operation for about five years.
