It took them most of the season, but the Okotoks Dawgs have managed to chase down the Medicine Hat Mavericks, and actually now lead them by half a game in the WMBL's West Division.

It's all thanks to the Mavericks going 3-and-7 in their last 10, while the Dawgs have gone 8-and-2 including Wednesday night's 6-2 win over the Prospects up in Edmonton.

Leading 3-2 in the top of the eighth inning, the Dawgs bats came alive as they scored three runs to pick up the crucial win.

Joel Brophy led the way for the Dawgs at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, and a couple of RBI's.

That gives Brophy seven doubles on the season, while both Kellen Mafruffo and Josh McIntyre lead the team with 11 each.

Daniel Fredickson had a couple of hits, and two RBI's on the night as well.

Garrett Cuik went six full innings allowing just two runs on seven hits, with four strikeouts as he won his third game of the year.

Taylor Davis came in to mop up, pitching the final three innings allowing three hits, while striking out one.

The Dawgs will look to put a little more daylight between themselves and the Mavericks Thursday night when they host the Lethbridge Bulls starting at 7:05 at Seaman Stadium.
