The Okotoks Dawgs knocked the Regina Red Sox 6-0 Friday night, winning their 3rd straight contest.

1st baseman Kellan Maruffo went yard for his 2nd home run of the season, but all eyes were on starting pitcher Trevor Swaney, he went the distance allowing just five hits and striking out five Red Sox batters.

Maruffo says Swaney put on quite a show on the mound, but it's the work fans don't see that makes him special.

"A lot of people don't see what goes on behind closed doors, every night Swaney after each game, he's in the indoor doing dry runs, getting ready for the next time he comes out," he says. "It shows, his hard work showed today (Friday) and it continues to show, he's going to be a good guy and a good asset on the mound for us."

Since dropping the first of the Dawgs' last regular season home stand, Maruffo says it's been all business since.

"Just trying to get it going one through nine, and it came around today (Friday), everyone had good approaches, the guys (Regina) were keeping us off balance here and there, they had some good stuff," he says. "We made the adjustments early and started to get some good hits, come around the bases really well and started to get some runs on the board, so that was nice to see."

The Dawgs welcome the Edmonton Prospects into the town Saturday Night, a team that at times has given the Dawgs headaches.

Maruffo knows they can't take them lightly. Especially with Medicine Hat on their heels as well.

"Edmonton keeps giving us problems here and there," he says. "They like to grind, we like grind too, you know there's two top contenders and that's how we want to go out, two good wins like that, we don't want anything easy coming through the home stretch so we're really excited about that.

The Dawgs are now 26-16 on the campaign.

First pitch Saturday is set for 7:05, followed by Sunday's breast cancer game at 2:05.
