As the Alberta Midget Hockey Season gets set, the CFR Triple 'A' Bisons have found their replacement head coach, for the coach they just replaced.

After Dan McDonald retired from coaching after leading the Bisons to a league championship, Adam Redmond was supposed to take care of the team. But when the Calgary Canucks came calling Redmond left the team in a tight spot.

But as training camp rolls into Strathmore this coming weekend, the Bisons named Sandy Henry Head Coach.

Henry who's been coaching with the Bisons as an assistant the past two years says he along with assistants Doug Rycroft and Ray Atwood are making sure the team stays competitive after a memorable season.

"None of us are aspiring in our lives to be head coaches but at the same time we enjoy coaching we like the interaction with the players and we think we have something to offer them," he says. "I think for kids coming in they're going to see the program go down the same model that it has the past two years."

The expectations to keeping up with appearances in the AMHL will be high after the Bisons' league title, regional championship and Telus Cup appearance.

Henry says training camp will competitive.

"Got a lot of players coming in that want to make this team, we're going to have to sort this out," he says. "I think we feel we could have a strong roster, we'll see what we have in camp but I think there's some depth in all positions in the try-out format and we're going to have to sort that out."

When the Bisons were looking for a coach and couldn't land someone to run the program, Henry and the staff knew they couldn't leave the team hanging and decided to split the work load.

"We're not looking for anything else, we're looking to make this the solid program that it is and continue that on and make a good legacy for the program and plus improve the 20 guys that are going to be Bisons this year."

Henry is a scout with the WHL's Red Deer Rebels along with the Okotoks Oilers and is defensive coach specialist running development camps in the summer. He's also the father of Oiler's defenceman Darian Henry who graduated with the team last year.
