Canada's cow herd is getting smaller and ranchers are looking at strong prices on the cusp of the fall calf run.

Alberta Beef Producer Chairman Darcy Davis says abundant feed completes the positive outlook.

"The braley crop is coming off in a big way and there is alot of feed in the country.  The fat cattle price didn't drop off this summer as much as people expected."

Davis says while input costs are way up, it's good to know that cattle are worth something.
