Biodigester protesters get support in downtown High River

A protest against the planned biodigester at Rimrock Feeders happened Wednesday afternoon in downtown High River.

A few dozen showed up with printed placards for the respectful protest however Foothills protective services were on hand.

One of the organizers, Benita Estes, says they needed to take a stand.

"Now, as far as the protest, I helped put it together, but Julia Allan helped... there's been a few people that have helped organize this.

We're basically being pushed to the sideline, and this is our stance saying, 'we mean business!'. It's the same with the coal mines, we don't want this here."

Estes says they're tired of not getting any answers from anyone, including local politicians with Foothills County or from the Town of High River.

"Nothing, really. I get nothing from them now. I've emailed all the councillors. I was getting something from some of the councillors but nothing now. They don't reply, they don't answer... I think they've got mud on their face.

The protest was held in front and across from Town Hall in downtown High River just prior to a Foothills County meeting at 1:30 p.m. on the subject.

The meeting was an information session and wasn't taking questions unless they were emailed in ahead of time.

Many people driving by the protest honked their horns in support of the protest.
