Shuffleboard is a popular sport here in High River and around the world and if a recent bid put in to host the 36th International Shuffleboard Tournament is a go we'll be hosting the world.

Ken Wardley organizer of the event says when he presented the bid to the International Board of Directors and he included the Calgary Stampede as another reason to pick High River.

"They could come to Alberta and take advantage of two international events. The Calgary Exhibition & Stampede ends on July 15, so we're encouraging them to come to the Stampede and then come down to High River."

He says the event also goes on July 15, 2018 and adds the International Board is meeting in Florida to go over the bids and we'll know on October 27 if High River won.

Wardley says it'll bring people from around the world to our doorstep.

"I would say that probably 250 people from 16 countries will be here."

He says the chances of an event like this taking place in High River is good.

"I think we've got a good shot, there's certainly some interest. We've had conversations with people from Norway and also the United States and Germany".
