The Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League now have four players on their current roster headed to NCAA Division I schools.

Jagger Tapper of Calgary has committed to attend and play for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.

The Engineers play in the NCAA’s Division I ECAC Hockey division.

"We couldn't be happier for Jagger to start off his rookie season committing to an excellent program," said Oilers head coach and GM Tyler Deis in a release from the club. "For some time we've known Jagger has the potential to be a significant impact player at this level, and we're looking forward to helping him develop into the kind of player who will impact RPI just as much."

Tapper, 17, is coming off a stellar season with the U18 AAA Calgary Flames, where he was named MVP for the Alberta Elite Hockey League, leading the league in scoring with 51 points, including 20 goals and 31 assists in 35 games.

He also appeared in five games with the Oilers as an affiliate player, scoring his first Junior A goal in October against the Camrose Kodiaks at home.

Other members of the current 2022-23 Oilers roster committed to an NCAA Division I schools are: forwards Conyr Hellyer of Okotoks and Connor Gourley of Calgary, who are committed to Arizona State University, and Sam Huck of Calgary who's committed to Western Michigan University.

The Oilers open the regular season Friday September 16 on the road in Camrose.

They host the Olds Grizzlys Sept. 23 for their home opener at the Centennial arena.
