Okotoks Oilers President Wayne Lauinger (L) was in Red Deer for the AJHL's Semi-Annual Meeting over the weekend where he and the other League Governors discussed the tough economic times and their impact on the league.

The Alberta Junior Hockey League brain trust got together over the weekend for their semi-annual meeting in Red Deer.

The hot topic of discussion was the economy, in particular how the downturn is affecting the league.

Turns out, they're feeling the pinch too, as corporate sponsorship has dropped, as has fan support, as people are being more selective with their entertainment dollar.

The league will also form a committee to look into the possibility of an AJHL draft.

The league governors will vote on the concept at their Annual General Meeting in May.
