It was an action packed Saturday in Nanton, with everything from the fresh produce at the farmers market, hooves flying at the Jr. Rodeo Finals to refreshing water at the fire hall.

The Nanton's Farmers Market runs every Saturday at the United Church from 9am-1pm. It is filled with vendors who are selling everything from fruit, candles, to real llama & alpaca socks.

Stan Eckstrand has been selling his products of pepperoni, jerky, socks, and wrist warmers for the past 7 years at the Nanton Market and has owned llamas and alpacas for the past 31 years. Together him and his wife enjoy raising them and working together to make the clothing items.

The Jr. Rodeo Finals were packed with competitors from age 5 to 16 in barrel racing, goat tying, team roping and breakaway roping! I spoke with Amy Gillespie and her daughter Eila about the event. Eila was happy to share how much she loves rodeoing, in face she competes in goat tying and is working towards becoming the next rodeo queen!

At the Nanton Fire Hall there was the opportunity to hit a firefighter into the dunk tank with a baseball or the even using the hose to shoot them in. There was also an obstacle course that was filled with families spending time weaving through cones, climbing ladders and hitting a target with the hose ALL with full gear on. It was a lot of fun and was a great way to work up their appetite for the BBQ. All proceeds from this fun firefighter event went towards funding new equipment for the Willow Creek Fire Fighters Foundation.

Some of the amazing firefighters and their families helping out at the BBQ today!

These brothers worked hard to finish the obstacle course as fast as they could while having tons of fun!!

I was able to speak with Shawn Wiebe and John Dozeman, both senior firefighters at the Nanton Hall. Thanks to their expertise I learned more about the equipment and techniques used as a firefighter such as how to tell what the origin of a fire was. Not only did I learn lots but I was able to try out the obstacle course for myself - in FULL gear with an oxygen tank and everything! After completing the course I gained a new level of appreciation for firefighters as it sure is a lot harder and hotter than it looks!!

Nanton Round Up Days is on for the remainder of August Long Weekend so make sure you bring your friends and family to join in on the activites!!

Hope you have a great day,
