This Weekend I visited the quaint little Village of Arrowwood and took part in their parade and 4-H achievement day.

(Arrowwood is located on Highway 547 and is 60 kilometers east of Okotoks.)

For a population around 200 people, this Village had a great amount of community spirit.
The parade was the highlight of my day as it was not as traditional as some of the other parades I have attended in the past.
In Arrowwood, they want everyone to see both sides of the floats therefore, after you are finished parading down the route you turn around and parade back the way you came.
Even the second time around, the Villagers were just as excited to see you as they were the first time.
After I filled the children’s candy bags with Jolly Rancher suckers, I headed over to the Village’s Rodeo Grounds.
There, they celebrated 4-H achievement day and the kids apart of this great program participated in numerous games.
The best game in my opinion was “Musical Apples” in which the children had to trot around the arena on their horses and when the music stopped they had to run to the middle and eat an apple.
All throughout the afternoon the fun and games took place and then they were followed by the little brothers and sisters of the 4-H participants taking part in Mutton Busting.
Before my Saturday in Arrowwood, I attended the High River Farmer’s Market on Thursday which was another great example of community support.
Throughout the afternoon on Thursday I met with many different Highriverites who were very enthusiastic about the return of the seasonal market.
It was evident that many people were excited as the streets were packed from the start till the end of the market.
This year there is plenty of new vendors and a broad range of goods for sale.
The market will be taking place each Thursday on 4th Ave in High River from 4-7.
Come check it out!
