UPDATE: at 8:58 p.m.

Highway 519 has re-opened to traffic.

=========================================================================

There's been a two vehicle collision on Highway 519 at Range Road 254, just east of Granum.

Both vehicles are semi's and both are on fire. There are no injuries reported.

One semi carrying canola oil is leaking into the irrigation canal and the oil is burning.

The other semi was filled with canola meal.

Emergency crews are letting the semis burn.

The water flow in the canal has been reduced with many resources on scene.

Members of local fire departments, peace officers, RCMP, Volker Stevin (responsible for highway maintenance), EMS, Alberta Parks, Lethbridge Irrigation and bridge structure engineers are working together to deal with the emergency.

Highway 519 between Highway 2 and Highway 23 is closed.

RCMP are asking everyone to avoid the area.
