Two Albertans are being honoured for their dedication to developing Canadian beef genetics.

The late Louis Latimer from Olds, and Bob Prestage from Camrose, have been named as two of the six inductees into the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame for 2019.

Prestage is being recognized for developing a progeny test program for beef cattle 60 years ago, as well as his hard work building the Angus cattle breed.

According to the Hall of Fame, he also played a key role in creating a worldwide beef export network with the Alberta Angus Association, and has a thriving international export business of semen and embryos of all species of livestock at his Wicklow Angus farm.

Latimer will be honoured for his lasting legacy developing a global demand for Canadian beef genetics, and his passion for breeding and marketing Hereford cattle.

The Hall of Fame says Latimer was a trailblazer in using data-based selection methods and he saw value in telling the story of his farm with his Remitall Cattle Company brand, which they say was a marketing move ahead of its time.

They'll be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame later this year along with JoAnne Buth, Marc Comtois, Cynthia Grant, Laurent Pellerin on November 28th in Quebec City.
