Executive Vice President of the Canadian Cattlemen's Association, says 2018 will be one of their busier years.

Dennis Laycraft says, NAFTA will be front and centre until March.

"Hopefully we will end up with a deal, but there's always clearly the risk the U.S. could trigger their efforts to withdraw from NAFTA. And TPP, we're expecting a fair bit of work on that between now and May, and trade agreements can always take longer than anyone likes, but we believe there's some momentum there on that deal."

Laycraft says, also in 2018, the new Canadian Agricultural Partnership replacing Growing Forward 2 on April 1.

"They'll be a fair number of programs that become available at that time, and our research cluster will move into it's next five years. We're hopeful that the super cluster application that's come out of agriculture will get aprroved, and that'll certainly allow more funding for innovation."
