The Alberta Wheat Commission welcomes their new Chair, Kevin Bender.

Bender farms west of Red Deer, and has been with the Commission since it first began August 1, 2012.

Bender says, it was quite an honour to be voted in as Chair at their Annual General Meeting last week at FarmTech in Edmonton.

"It's very humbling that the board puts their confidence in me to lead the board, and I'm certainly willing to step up to the challenge, and I hope that they can look back and say he led us well. That's my hope at the end of it, ya know, Alberta wheat is good or better than it was when I started."

Bender says, the Outgoing Chair, Kevin Auch, has left him with very big shoes to fill.

"He did a phenomenal job leading us. He was there for two years as Chairman, and he really led by example. He took on a lot of things that needed to be done. He took the ball and ran with it, and really set a great example."

Bender says, he sincerely thanks Auch for all of his hard work in helping shape the commission's strategic direction and leadership.

The board also welcomed three new board members. Hannah Konschuh and Justin Bell will both serve in Region 2, and Todd Hames will serve in Region 4.

"We had two board members terming out, and then one decided not to run for a second term and is going to focus more on his farm. We're excited to have three new faces around the table and look forward to engaging them."

The commission says, elections for region 3 will be taking place in November 2018.
