There's no need for potato lovers to panic about a spud shortage yet.

Potato Growers of Alberta Executive Director, Terence Hochstein, says some areas of Canada did have a tough harvest due to cold, wet conditions resulting in these areas being short of their normal production.

But Hochstein says, the industry really pulls together.

"The potato industry across North America is very intertwined, and anytime that there's an area of some shortage, they usually pull it from other growing areas."

Hochstein says, Alberta has already shipped potatoes to both PEI and Manitoba for processing.

He says, some Alberta potato acres were also left in the ground because the areas were too wet, or saw little growth, but that happens every year.

He adds, they've filled all their contracts with Southern Alberta potato processors.
