A familiar face here in Southern Alberta has joined Ag for Life as a New Director.

Former Macleod Member of Parliament, Ted Menzies, recently took on the role in the Alberta organization dedicated to delivering farm safety programming and an understanding of the important role of agriculture.

Menzies says the farm is like the factory floor.

"And your family lives there, and grows up there, and plays there and works there, and so their (Ag for Life) support for education about agriculture, and the education of safety around the farm, is so critically important."

Ag for Life CEO, Luree Williamson, says the appointment of Menzies to their board will enhance their connections within rural Alberta and the agricultural sector.

"We look forward to tapping into his experience as our organization moves towards our long-term goals around improving farm safety and the public's appreciation of agriculture."

Menzies farmed for many years producing grains, pulse crops and oilseeds, and played an active role in agriculture policy development and agricultural international trade through a number of commodity organizations.

His past roles include President of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers, founding member and Vice President of Grain Growers of Canada and President of the Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance.

After Menzies retired from his political career in 2013, he became President and CEO of CropLife Canada until retiring in 2017.

Menzies says it's an honour to join the group of dedicated industry leaders on the board of Ag for Life.
